What is this New QWO® Injectable Treatment That’s Generating a Buzz?
If you are like most adult women, you have cellulite. And, if you are among the 80-90% of adult women with cellulite, you have likely investigated various means to get rid of it. You also know that cellulite is a notoriously difficult condition to treat. In fact, women have only been able to access genuinely effective cellulite treatments—such as Cellulaze™—for the past few years.
Given the relative scarcity of effective options, you’ve probably heard a lot of buzz about a new cellulite treatment called QWO®. This treatment is the first and only FDA-approved injectable for reducing moderate to severe cellulite located in the buttocks. Tru Glō Medspa now offers this innovative cellulite treatment to its southwest Florida-area clients and is pleased to give you the skinny on why it’s creating such a buzz.
What is QWO®, and How Does It Work?
In technical terms, QWO® is collagenase clostridium histolyticum. Put more simply, QWO® is an injectable formulation of collagenase enzymes that can reduce cellulite pockets by disrupting their underlying structural formation.
And that underlying structural formation is caused by three different factors that emerge as we age:
- Over time, our skin gets thinner
- Our fat cells enlarge and push against the thinning skin
- Fibrous bands under the skin thicken
The combination of these factors causes tension and the signature cellulite dimpling. The collagenase enzymes in QWO® can disrupt the interrelation of these factors. This happens by breaking down the fibrous bands, redistributing fat cells, and spurring new collagen growth. This, in turn, reduces the appearance of the cellulite dimpling.
How Long Does It Take for QWO® Results to Appear?
Complete treatment with QWO® consists of three injection sessions spaced three weeks apart. Because the collagenase enzymes react slowly with the fibrous bands, fat cells, and skin, it takes time for visible reductions in cellulite to appear. In general, most women notice results by the 10th week after the first session, with continued decreases and smoothing of the cellulite occurring over the following weeks and months.
How Long Do QWO® Results Last?
Clinical results showed results lasting at least one year. Researchers believe that Because QWO® breaks down the fibrous bands, results should be long-lasting. In fact, results could even be permanent absent new cellulite formation.
Are There Any Side Effects?
The most common side effects include short-term bruising, pain, itching, redness, discoloration, and areas of hardness near the injection site. QWO® can also cause allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, in some women. Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to collagenase should not take it.
